Serendipity 1.1 released

[Serendipity]

The Serendipity Team has released Serendipity version 1.1 to the public.

This new version is aimed for feature enhancement and stability consolidation. The most important change is the overhaul of the media database. This means that you can now store and customize meta properties easily – store descriptions, EXIF-Tags and keywords which you can later see and search in your database.

The other important change is more granular plugin permission management. You can enable/disable certain markup-plugins on a per-entry basis, and allow/forbid specific usergroups to access certain plugins.

For the developers among us, it might be of interest to note that Serendipity now also supports easy custom template-engine support. Tired of Smarty? You can also use a plain old PHP template emulation or even a XSLT-transformation layer.

To learn more, please refer to the release announcement.

Tikiwiki

[Tikiwiki]

Tikiwiki is probably one of the most feature rich CMS packages because, unlike other open source projects that ship only a small set of features and encourage third party add-ons, it includes as many features as possible in the project itself.

Tikiwiki is indeed so feature rich that it can be overwhelming, even to an experienced user or administrator. On the other side all the features are optional and administered via a web-based interface.

Tikiwiki is written in PHP, and uses ADOdb as a database abstraction layer, allowing it to store data in MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Sybase or MS SQL Server. The template engine is Smarty, which is included in the Tikiwiki installation.

The initial release of TikiWiki, version 0.9, was in October 2002. Tikiwiki is currently maintained and developed by an international community of volunteer contributors, and is licensed under the GNU LGPL (Lesser General Public License).
