Typo3 is “a small to midsize enterprise-class Content Management Framework offering the best of both worlds: out-of-the-box operation with a complete set of standard modules and a clean and sturdy high-performance architecture accomodating virtually every kind of custom solution or extension.”

Typo3’s development was started from scratch by Kasper Skårhøj in 1997, and the first production quality version (Typo3 version 3.0) was released on May 24, 2002. A detailed history of the project is available on Typo3 web site.

Typo3 is based on PHP and MySQL, but can support other database systems as well. Typo3 is Open Source Software, and is released under the GNU GPL (General Public License).
